PERSONAL NOTES

• My favorite in this bunch right now is BeOS. Fast and
beautiful... (Needs more peripheral support). Too
bad it's pretty much dead at this point... Sigh.
Reminded me a lot of the AmigaOS.

• OpenBSD is highly regarded as the most secure desktop
OS right out of the box. As with all the BSDs, great
for firewalls and other networking devices.

• Linux is making its presence felt, but it still has
quite a few growing pains to go through over the next
two years, IMO. I think it will make a great embedded
OS, as soon as its proponents stop trying to conquer
  to desktop.

• Lycoris, formerly RedmondLinux, is among the easiest
and friendliest of Linux distros, and is targetted at
novice users. Other cool distros to start with are
RedHat and Mandrake, and more suited to someone who
wants to learn Linux, rather than simply having
  Linux emulate Windows.

• Knoppix is a customized Linux distro that can be run
entirely from CD, with nothing installed to your
hard drive. Good for testing out Linux and getting
a feel for it with your hardware.
